On Thursday,
April 4, 2002, the last session of Provincetown's 2002 Annual Town Meeting
was ushered out by The
Stakeholders' rousing rendition of "I Fall to Pieces." Earlier,
during consideration of some thirty z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-zoning articles at
Tuesday, April 2nd's session, Town Moderator Roslyn Garfield had invited
the group to liven up the audience. The result was a standing ovation
for "Stand By Your Man." Left
to right: Town Manager Keith Bergman (on Guild dreadnaught guitar), Tourism
Director Patricia "Patsy" Fitzpatrick, and Selectmen Mary-Jo
Avellar, Michele Couture, Betty Steele-Jeffers, Cheryl Andrews, and David
Atkinson. (Video

stake·hold·er
(stkhldr) n. One who holds the
bets in a game or contest; One who has a share or an interest, as
in an enterprise.
The name "Stakeholders" originated from
the over use of this public policy jargon; as demonstrated the Board
of Selectmen, in posing for the Provincetown Gothic portrait
(left). The portrait was presented to Keith Bergman
(right) on the occasion of his tenth anniverary as Town Manager,
on March 5, 2000. Since the Selectmen and Town Manager had
earlier agreed to perform at the March 11, 2000 Yearrounders Festival--
but had yet come up with a name for their act-- "The Stakeholders"
were born! (photos by Vincent Guadazno)
