As those of us who live in Provincetown and the Outer Cape know, our police, fire departments and rescue squads are enormously important. Before I begin my remarks -- I would like to ask those members of the police department, fire department, and rescue squad who are with us today to stand for a moment of recognition. Sometimes we forget that these are the people who protect use every day.
We in Provincetown are so very proud of our place in our country's history. I usually stand in front of you on Memorial Day or Veteran's day as a representative of our local government and express this pride. Today, I not only want to reaffirm our pride in America but to take this moment to express our sympathy to those who have lost their loved ones. We have watched in horror and dismay as television has provided us with a front row seat on death and destruction. And we have watched with pride as people have rallied to show support. Our Country and we as a people have been forever changed by Tuesday's events. But our spirit will be stronger, our country will be stronger and our pride will be greater.
God Bless America |
