Greetings to all visitors to Provincetown!
From
your Community Oriented Police Department
We
are very pleased you have chosen Provincetown for your vacation. Our aim is to be sure you have a
comfortable, enjoyable time while visiting and taking pleasure in all that we
have to offer.
In order to be sure that nothing goes awry for you,
please keep the following in mind while you are here:
Operating under the principles known as Community
Oriented Policing, we work in partnership with citizens and visitors
alike. Our aim is for you to have fun
during your vacation and all we ask in return is your responsible
behavior. Don’t hesitate to ask for
help from any of our courteous personnel.
Ø The Town has zero tolerance
for Hate Crimes. If you are the victim
of a hate crime or incident, please report it to us immediately so we can
resolve any problems at once and prevent future incidents. We are proud of our Anti-Defamation League (ADL) designation as one of many towns in
Massachusetts honored as “No Place for Hate.”
Ø Using alcohol to
excess. While we understand that
consumption of alcohol is a significant part of the party scene, we ask for
reasonableness. Individuals who are
incapacitated, and present a danger to themselves and others, will be brought
in by the police for Protective Custody, a non-criminal, no record action
intended to help a person recover from excess imbibing.
Ø Drug abuse – we have zero
tolerance for drug abuse and will take all appropriate action when confronted
with this problem.
Ø Noise – we implemented a new
waiver of noise enforcement for special events but please understand that we
will have to take action on individuals failing to heed our requests to “tone
it down”.
Ø Parking – do not park in
marked zones or along Commercial Street between Pearl and Central – you’ll be
ticketed and towed, especially in front of the Post Office where everyone is
ticketed with no warning. Please park
in the designated parking lots and avoid confrontation. Do not use 4-way flashers, they are annoying
to others and do not prevent us from ticketing. Do place a sign in your windshield stating where you are if
you are picking up pre-ordered food, returning videos and the like. Limit standing to no more than 10
minutes. Vehicles without signs will be
ticketed.
Ø Speeding – we are not
tolerant of speed and especially on Bradford or marked side streets where
reduced speed is required for public safety.
Watch carefully for traffic emerging from side streets. And stop at crosswalks to allow people to
cross.
Ø Dogs – we welcome your dogs
but they must be on leashes. Dogs
running free will result in citations being issued to the owner. And always pick up dog poop – bags are
available at landings! Don’t risk a
fine!
Ø In short, enjoy all we have
to offer and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one
of our customer friendly personnel. We
are here for you – your comfort and safety!
And, let us know how we might better serve you.
