HOW TO APPLY
All persons
interested in a position with the department must first take the civil
service police officer examination. To apply for the examination contact the
Massachusetts Human Resources Division,
One Ashburton Place, Room 303, Boston, MA 02108-1515. Applications may also
be obtained at City and Town Clerk's Offices or state agency personnel offices.
The forms may be obtained in person or by certified mail.

However, out of state persons interested should be fully
aware that the Provincetown Police Department is subject to Massachusetts
Civil Service laws whereby residents of the community who take and pass the
HRD Entry Level Examination will appear first on any Eligibility List
requested by the Department, and that those who qualify must be given
preference when the hiring process is conducted. |
APPOINTMENTS
After passing the written state exam all
applicants are placed on an eligibility list determined by the Human Resources
Division. Eligible persons will then go through a thorough personal background
check, psychological testing, physical examination, reference check, and interview.
The Town Manager will then make the appointment to the Department based on
the above and a recommendation by the Chief of Police.
TRAINING
Newly appointed officers will then attend a
21-week Police Academy sponsored by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training
Council. Officers will then receive Field Training with officers and
supervisors from the various shifts. Officers are then assigned to a permanent
patrol shift.

EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS
There is a minimum requirement that all officers have a high school diploma
from an accredited school or service. However, the demands of the job show a
need for applicants to be committed to continuing their education for
professional growth and promotion.
