Minutes of  June 11,  2007

 

Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chair), Peter Grosso (Vice Chair), Shannon Patrick, Kerry Adams, Debra Trovato (arrived at 4:06 P.M.)

Student Representative:  Jasmine Hadley   Absent:  Pele Berg

 

Others Present: Jessica Waugh, Superintendent of Schools,  Dr. Floriano Pavão, School Principal,  Elizabeth Francis, Assist to the Principal/VMES, Sallie Tighe, PAE President, Donna O’Brien School Nurse

and Others

 

The Chair called the meeting to order at 4:06 P.M.

 

Public Comments:

→ Jasmine Hadley (Student Representative to PSC), stepped down to present the Class of 2007 PHS Yearbook to the School Committee. 

 

Minutes:

Peter Grosso made a motion to approve the  May 15, 2007 Minutes noting a correction in the return time of Shannon Patrick.  Debra Trovato Seconded.  So voted 5-0

 

Kerry Adams made a motion to move out of order item #6.1 Overnight Trip Request by Yearbook Committee to the beginning of the meeting.  Peter Grosso seconded.  So Voted 5-0

The Yearbook Committee overnight trip was reviewed and discussed.  Peter Grosso made a motion to approve the request.  Seconded by Debra Trovato.  So voted 5-0

 

 Unfinished Business:

5.1  Athletic Handbook (2nd Reading) was further discussed.  Superintendent Waugh would like MIAA Rule 57, Page 11 be made clearer.  Rule 57 is not the waiver request, 57A is the Waiver reference. The Committee agreed to place this item on the next school committee agenda.

 

 

5.2  Health Advisory Report was presented by Donna O’Brien, Lead School Nurse which targeted childhood obesity.   The Committee discussed offering more fruit at Veterans Memorial Elementary School, no longer offering whole milk, and encouraging student activity to help curb the problem.  It was decided to have Ms. O’Brien return to the next School Committee meeting for further discussion and consideration.

New Business:

6.2  Bid Awards:  The bids for FY-08 were reviewed by the Committee.

            Peter Grosso made a motion to award the Milk, Bread, and Ice Cream, Bids to Garelick Farms.  Seconded  by Kerry Adams.  So voted 5-0

            Peter Grosso made a motion to award the School Physician Bid to Outer Cape Health Services.  Seconded by Kerry Adams.  So voted 5-0

            Peter Grosso made a motion to award the heating oil Bid to Cape Cod Oil.

Seconded by Kerry Adams.  So voted 5-0.

 

6.3  PSC representative to Cape Cod Collaborative was discussed.  It was agreed to

place this item on the next agenda so that Mr. Adams could have an opportunity to consider being named the school committee CCC representative.

 

6.4  School Committee Sub-committee appointments for the new year were discussed and the following motions and votes taken:

●  Peter Grosso made a motion to appoint Terese Nelson and Debra Trovato to the Budget Sub-committee. Seconded by Shannon Patrick.  So voted 5-0

●  Debra Trovato made a motion to appoint Terese Nelson and Peter Grosso to the Truro Tuition Sub-committee.  Seconded by Shannon Patrick.  So voted 5-0

●  Terese Nelson made a motion to appoint Debra Trovato and Peter Grosso to the Use of Facilities Sub-committee.  Seconded by Shannon Patrick.  So voted 5-0

●  Terese Nelson made a motion to appoint Shannon Patrick and Peter Grosso to the Sick Leave Bank Sub-committee.  Seconded by Debra Trovato.  So voted 5-0

●  Terese Nelson made a motion to appoint Debra Trovato and Peter Grosso to the Union Negotiation Sub-committee.  Seconded by Shannon Patrick.  So voted 5-0

●  Debra Trovato made a motion to appoint Peter Grosso to the John Anderson Francis Family Scholarship committee.  Seconded by  Kerry Adams.  So voted  5-0

●  Debra Trovato made a motion to create an Early Childhood Educator Sub-committee.  Peter Grosso seconded.  So voted 5-0

●  Debra Trovato made a motion to appoint Terese Nelson to the ECE Sub-committee.  Seconded by Peter Grosso.  So voted 5-0

 

6.5  PHS Student Handbook.  Dr. Pavão discussed the student handbook.  The committee requested a list of all the changes.   Dr. Pavão indicated he will have Pamela Silva his Adm. Assistant make the list and get to the committee.

 

Jessica Waugh presented to the school committee a list of the new semester electives for the 2007-08 School Year.

 

The committee also decided to plan a workshop for sometime in July 2007.

Peter Grosso made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Seconded by Debra Trovato.

So Voted 5-0
