Minutes of February 6, 2007

Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chair), Debra Trovato, and Shannon Patrick

and Student Representative Jasmine Hadley, Peter Grosso arrived at 5:20 P.M.

Absent: Burton Wolfman and Student Representative: Pele Berg

Others Present: Jessica Waugh, Supt. of Schools, Dr. Floriano Pavão, School District Principal, Elizabeth Francis, Tia Scalcione, Sallie Tighe, Debra Minsky, Helena Ferreira, Alma Welsh and Betty White

The Chair called the meeting to order at 4:05 P.M.

None

Minutes:

The 1/9/2007 Minutes were tabled until the next meeting. There was not a quorum able to vote on these Minutes. Ms. Nelson and Ms. Trovato were only present members in attendance at the 1/9/2007 Meeting (Mr. Grosso had not arrived yet, Mr. Woflman was absent and Ms. Patrick had not been present at the 1/9/07 meeting)

Shannon Patrick made a motion to accept the 1/16/07 Afternoon Meeting Minutes. Seconded by Debra Trovato. So voted 3-0

Debra Trovato made a motion to accept the 1/16/2007 Evening Meeting Minutes. Seconded by Shannon Patrick. So voted 3-0

Shannon Patrick made a motion to accept the 1/23/2007 Minutes. Seconded by Debra Trovato. So voted 3-0

Superintendent’s Update:

→ School Nurse Susan Baker is resigning effective March 2nd, 2007. The current School Nurse Donna O’Brien will take over as the lead nurse and the process has begun to find her replacement.

→ Janice Johnson, School Psychologist has announced her retirement at the close of the

current school year.

Dr. Floriano Pavão reviewed and discussed his proposed homework policy with the school committee. After much discussion, Shannon Patrick made a motion to adopt the new homework policy. Seconded by Peter Grosso. So voted 3-0-1 Abstention Terese Nelson

6. Unfinished Business:

6.1 PSC Policy Revision Fiscal Accounting and Reporting DI

The committee discussed the (2nd Reading) of the new PSC Policy: Revision Fiscal Accounting and Reporting (DI). Shannon Patrick made a motion to approve the new policy. Seconded by Peter Grosso. So voted 4-0

6.2

Cape Cod Collaborative Representative

The committee discussed there was still no school committee member acting as a representative to the Cape Cod Collaborative. Again no one volunteered to be the representative. The committee has decided to revisit this matter at a later meeting.

6.3

John Anderson Francis Scholarship discussion was tabled to a later meeting.

New Business:

7.1 School Ski Trip Request

The committee reviewed the request for a school ski trip. Terese Nelson made a motion to approve the request. Peter Grosso Seconded. It was so voted 3-0-1 Abstention by Shannon Patrick

7.2

Adult Education Program

Tia Scalcione (former Adult Education Director) made a presentation to the school committee and stated she will organize (at no charge ), a March and April (8 week) Adult Education Program. It was stated that an article needs to be placed in the Provincetown Banner about the Adult Ed Program. Ms. Scalcione indicated she will write course descriptions and make them available at our schools. Shannon Patrick made a motion to accept the proposal. Peter Grosso seconded. It was so voted 4-0

7.3

School Lunch Price Inrease

The committee reviewed a presentation for a school lunch price increase. After discussion

Peter Grosso made a motion to approve the new lunch prices. Seconded by

Shannon Patrick So voted 4-0

7.4

New Programs

Debra Trovato made a motion to table this item until another meeting. Seconded by Shannon Patrick . So voted 4-0
