Minutes of June 22, 2006

Executive Session

Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chairperson), Peter Grosso (Vice Chair), Debra Trovato, Burton Wolfman (Secretary), Shannon Patrick

Also Present: Jessica Waugh, Curriculum Coordinator, Keith Bergman, Town Manager

The Chair called the meeting to order following a roll call at 4.05 P.M.

Peter Grosso presented a report concerning discussions between School Counsel Edward F. Lenox and PAE Union Representative Henry Burbine regarding a potential negotiating proposal for the 2006-07 school year.

Peter Grosso made a motion the school committee collective bargaining representatives are authorized to accept a proposal initiated by the union for a one year contract which has a 1% salary increase for six months followed by another 2% increase for the balance of the year. The School Committee would agree as part of this proposal to include language in the contract to have “supermax” payments be mandatory. Debra Trovato seconded the motion. The motion was so voted 6-0 (Per statute the Town Manager participated in the vote)

The Committee went on to discuss the athletic director’s position and its possible inclusion in the planned Memorandum of Understanding between the Town of Provincetown, Recreation Department, and the School Department to include the athletic director’s function in the job description of the director of the recreation department. If this were to happen, the position would not be a union position for the period of time covered by the Memorandum of Understanding. The Committee will seek the support of the union.

The Committee adjourned its executive session at 5.00 P.M.
