Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chair), Peter Grosso (Vice Chair), Burton Wolfman, (Secretary), Debra Trovato, Shannon Patrick,
Also in attendance: Janice Lachowetz, Superintendent of Schools, Jessica Waugh, Curriculum Coordinator, Edward Boxer, PHS Principal, Anthony Teso, VMES Principal/DSS, Janice Williams, and Judith Stayton
The Chair called the meeting order at 8:35 A.M.
Committee discussed the consulting proposal submitted by Jan Williams exploring its scope, reporting issues, cost, timeline, and teacher, staff, student, parents and community involvement. The Committee raised concerns about the need to have competitive bids. The Superindentent was asked to seek the advice of school counsel. Superintendent Lachowetz placed a call to the school committee’s counsel.
Peter Grosso made a motion to retain Jan Williams and proceed with the proposed study contingent on advice of counsel. Debra Trovato seconded the motion. Terese Nelson proposed an amendment to the motion that the Committee proceed, at this time, with Phase I, $20,000 only. Peter Grosso seconded the amendment. The vote to proceed was 3-2. Debra Trovato and Burt Wolfman opposed.
Judith Stayton requested Committee approval for students to attend a yearbook workshop at Bryant College on July 6th and 7th, 2006. It is anticipated that 4 or 5 students will attend the workshop. Financial assistance from the district is not required. Burt Wolfman moved to approve trip. Seconded by Debra Trovato. So voted 5-0
Mr. Teso reported on the progress of the preschool/child care summer program. Teaching staff has been retained. Based on anticipated fall enrollment of 23 students the program may require two classrooms and additional staff with related increases in costs. Burt Wolfman moved that the Committee authorize Mr. Teso to plan on retaining necessary staff to operate two classrooms should the enrollment require same. Peter Grosso seconded the motion. It was so voted 5-0.
The Committee briefly discussed the recent issues relating to the Francis Scholarship Fund. Peter Grosso reported on his investigations into the Francis will and its intentions and history.

Ms. Waugh announced an all school meeting for June 21st at 2:45 P.M. in the Multi Purpose Room at VMES. The program will recognize the end of the school year as well as its retirees.
