Also in Attendance: Janice Lachowetz, Supt. of Schools, Keith Bergman, Town Manager, Jessica Waugh, Curriculum Coordinator, Edward Boxer, PHS Principal, Anthony Teso, VMES Principal/DSS and Tracy Roderick, Recreation Department
Chairs, Terese Nelson and Cheryl Andrews called their respective Boards to order
at 3:00 P.M..
The members discussed the coordination of programs and planning between the School District and the Recreation Department. With the current vacancy of the Director of the Recreation Department and that of the School Athletic Director, there is a unique opportunity to review job descriptions and potential resource efficiencies. Each board appointed a representative to a sub-committee to explore such options at a meeting which will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd , at 4:00 P.M. Burt Wolfman and Debra Trovato were appointed as the school sub-committee representatives. Cheryl Andrews and Michele Couture were appointed as the Board of Selectmen representatives to the sub-committee. Tracy Roderick will inform the Recreation Commission of the meeting.
The boards discussed the importance of developing a program for pre-kindergarten -extended day child care using school facilities. The boards noted that both the Community Preservation Committee, and the Economic Development Council have both agreed the need for such a program.
The boards agreed to continue the joint dialogue to establish operational goals for the coming years. The Board of Selectmen will be setting new goals at their meeting on June 12th, and at a hearing on June 26th. The School Committee is holding a Future Search Conference being held on May 16th and 17th. The intention of this two day conference is to articulate the needs and goals of the Provincetown Public Schools. The Selectmen noted that affordable/workforce housing will be family friendly and a high priority. The

school districts priority are enrollment and academic excellence both are of critical importance. Both boards agreed that cost containment is also relevant. The boards also agreed that open communication is essential, and a clear understanding of fiscal numbers, policies and goals.
