She informed the Committee that we and the Board of Selectmen had ten days in which to accept the audit before the funds would be released. Ms. White also explained to the Committee that in addition to funds authorized by Town Meeting, $7,250,000, the School Committee, from its own resources, namely School Choice and REAP grant, expended an additional $143,764. The MSBA audit which documents the Commonwealth’s 60% contribution approved a total of $4,714,812.60 which includes 60% of the Schools expenditures.
Burt Wolfman made a motion to accept the MSBA Audit and to inform the Board of Selectmen that the School Committee wishes to consider where it wants to allocate the 60% reimbursement of its funds. One, to either debt reduction, or a portion to provide funds which were eliminated through Fiscal-07 level funding. Molly Perdue seconded the motion. The motion was so voted 5-0.
The Committee discussed what programs have been eliminated from the FY-07 School Budget and need to be restored. The following were discussed; starting Summer PreK child care, Instrumental Music, Adult Education, and summer and academic year athletic staffing.
