Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chairperson), Peter Grosso( ViceChair), Debra Trovato, Burton Wolfman( Secretary), Molly Perdue, Student Representative, Jasmine Hadley
Absent: Student Representative: Helen Hemley
Also in attendance: Janice K. Lachowetz, Superintendent of Schools, Edward Boxer, PHS Principal and Betty White, Administrative Assistant/Business & Finance
The Chair called the meeting to order at 4.00 P.M.
Ms. White and Mr. Boxer asked the Committee to consider amending the current bus lease to exchange the current small school bus (which requires a licensed school bus driver) to a newer small bus. This smaller bus is not considered a “traditional” school bus and, therefore, can be driven by a Massachusetts licensed driver. Ms. White and
Mr. Boxer explained the need for this change is because of the extreme difficulty of keeping licensed school bus drivers to meet the heavy scheduling demands of the district’s existing school programs. Considerable discussion followed concerning the risks as well as benefits of a larger pool of potential drivers. Molly Perdue made a motion to approve the request. Seconded by Debra Trovato. The Committee approved the motion with the proviso that there would be put in place a detailed policy governing who could be designated as a driver. The Motion was so voted 5-0.
The Committee discussed the implementation of the Future Search with a strategic planning conference being held by “stakeholders” representing various segments of the community and school. These entities will be invited to participate in a two day conference in May.
The Committee adjourned at 5:15 P.M.
