FY-07 School Budget
The Chair thanked members of the audience for their interest and support. Superintendent Lachowetz explained the budget process and its significance in addressing the needs of the school district in order to achieve its objectives. The proposed FY-07 Budget was not merely a “wish list” of desired expenditures but a realistic assessment of the fiscal needs for the district’s educational programs.
Members of the School Committee and attendees then discussed strategies for developing support and awareness of the school’s fiscal needs for Town Meeting as well as the public at large. The discussion included development of fiscal data regarding school expenditures, the relative burden on the taxpayer to support public education, the advocacy role of the school councils, organizing the support of nonresident students who attend Provincetown schools, to inform the community of the importance of the schools via letters to the newspaper.
