Minutes of May 9, 2005
Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chairperson), Peter Grosso( ViceChair) Molly Perdue, Debra Trovato, Burton Wolfman( Secretary), Elizabeth Freeman (student representative)
Also in attendance: Dr. Colette B. Trailor, Supt. of Schools, Mr. Anthony Teso, VMES Principal/DSS, Mr. Edward Boxer, PHS Principal, Ms. Jessica Waugh, Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Janice Lachowetz, Ms. Fran Manion and Ms. Janice Newell
Chairperson called the meeting to order 5.05 P.M. with roll call vote of members present following a two hour workshop discussing Overview and Highlights of Educational Programming.
The Committee voted to add two new items to the agenda:
Reorganization of the committee.
Motion made by Deb Trovato. Seconded by Molly Perdue. So voted unanimously.
Appointment to the Francis Scholarship Committee.
Motion made by Peter Grosso. Seconded by Deb Trovato. So voted unanimously.
Committee voted to consider two agenda items out of order to allow presenters to leave earlier because of the late start of the meeting.
Molly Perdue moved Agenda item 7.0 Educational Up-Date, Technical Skills Curriculum. Deb Trovato seconded. So voted unanimously.
Peter Grosso moved Agenda item 9.1 New Business Senior Class trip. Seconded by Deb Trovato. So voted unanimously.
Reorganization of the school committee:
Peter Grosso made a motion to name Terese Nelson as Chairperson. Debra Trovato seconded. So voted unanimously.
Burton Wolfman made a motion to name Peter Grosso as Vice Chairman. Deb Trovato seconded. So voted unanimously.
Molly Perdue made a motion to name Burton Wolfman as secretary. Seconded by Deb Trovato. So voted unanimously.
Minutes: Peter Grosso made a motion to accept the March 29, 2005 Minutes as written. Seconded by Deb Trovato. So voted unanimously.
Peter Grosso moved to approve the Senior Class trip to Disney World. Burt Wolfman seconded. So Voted unanimously.
It was noted that school bus would be required for transportation to Amtrak for departure and return. The trip would also have three chaperons.
Peter Grosso made a motion to approve the Minutes of March 29, 2005 minutes. Seconded by Debra Trovato. So voted unanimously.
Susan Avellar presented an update of the Special Events for students participation during the Portuguese Festival. No action was required.
Fran Manion and Jessica Waugh presented the Technology Skill Curriculum.
After considerable discussion Molly Perdue moved to approve the curriculum. Debra Trovato seconded. So voted unanimously.
The Committee agreed to hold a special workshop on May 24, 2005, at 4:00 P.M. to further discuss the curriculum plan.
Molly Perdue on behalf of Lisa Colley presented a report of the Athletic Committee. The Committee is continuing its work to develop a policy handbook.
Mass Sail participation is being implemented.
The Committee discussed the need to identify/appoint a member of the School Community to serve on the Francis Scholarship Committee.
Dr. Trailor presented a revised Home Schooling Requirements Policy as a first reading. No action required at this meeting.
Surplus supplies: Molly Perdue made a motion to donate surplus chairs located in the Annex to the AIDS Support Group. Peter Grosso seconded. So voted unanimously.
