Minutes of February 22, 2005
Members Present: Terese Nelson (Chairperson), Molly Perdue, Debra Trovato, Burton Wolfman and Peter Grosso.
Also in attendance Dr.C. Trailer, Anthony Teso, Betty White, Alma Welsh Chairperson called the meeting to order 4.05PM
Educational Up-Date: Committee heard progress report from Alma Welsh regarding the
policies and uses of the VMES as and Emergency site. The Committee also welcomed
the acknowledgement that final approval of VMES accreditation has been awarded by
NEASC.
Unfinished Business : Pr Trailer reported on proposed drafts of Town warrants
concerning the School Committee. Committee expressed concerns about the issue of 10
or 20 year debt service amortizations as agreed in the memorandum of understanding
between the School Committee and the Selectmen. Molly Perdue moved that Terese
Nelson and Burt Wolfman constitute a sub committee to meet with Town Manager
Bergman to clarify the issue. Peter Grosso seconded the motions and it passed 5 aye 0
nay.
Committee received a report from Dr.Tailor concerning comparisons of fiscal years of 04
and 05 Net School Spending. For fiscal year 05 budget the district is spending $189,650
above the mandated Net School Spending.
New Business: The School Committee approved the following School trips:
Student Ski Trip. Moved by Peter Grosso, Seconded by Molly Perdue
Environmental Science Trip. Moved by Peter Grosso, Seconded by Molly Perdue
Committee review preliminary draft of 2005-2006 school calendar. Committee expressed interest in investigating moving professional development days to beginning of year before classes begin and evaluating different vacation schedules.
Committee heard report of plans for moving superindent's office to VMES. Burt Wolfman moved and Peter Grosso seconded a motion the accept the proposal and budget and to proceed with implementation. Moved passed 5 aye. 0 nay.
Committee adjourned at 5.40 PM to go into executive session.
