Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes

October 28, 2003

6:30 Meeting called to order by Candy Silva

Members present: Robert Cahill, Susan Cook, Dawn Henrique, Jill Macara, Candy Silva, and Recreation Director Dennis Clark.

I. Public Statement: None at this time

II. Old Business: Skatepark Plans

a. “Grand Opening” planned. Tentative date is November 9, 2003. Clark will post notice in the Banner and arrange for a DJ; also set up snack table with desserts, cider and hot cocoa. Other plans include raffle w/prizes and a bulletin board or display of other equipment we would like to acquire for the park.

b. Logo: Jose is working on a skatepark logo and will be presenting it to the Commission.

c. Existing ramps from the Mildred Greensfelder Playground will be moved to the new skatepark. Clark will coordinate move with DPW.

d. Barbeque Dinner – Ribs & Chicken- will be held at the Lobster Pot on December 5. Cost $10.00. Further details will be worked out at November 11 meeting

e. Clark suggested a joint meeting with the Police Department to review rules and regulations for the skatepark.

f. Jill Macara will assemble photos of the Skatepark with a thank you for all the volunteers that helped assemble the equipment and take it to the Bannerhe Lobster Pot on December 5 from 11:30am – 7:00pm. Still need more waitrons and delivery drivers. Fundraiser will take place instead of Dec. meeting. Next meeting January 7, 2004

III. New Business:

a. New programs scheduled for winter include Dance and Movement, Arts and Crafts, Theater and Performance, Writing, Board Games, in addition to the ongoing sports schedules.

b. Ski Trip scheduled December 19 –21, to Mt. Stowe, Vermont.

Next meeting scheduled November 29. Meeting adjourned 8:00pm
