Chatham Mooring Barge Report

Presented by Rex McKinsey

Discussion

Kerry Adams: Rex do you have any idea what the cost savings to the PPPC would be over the next 5 years.

Rex McKinsey: $100,000’s based upon quotes provided for pile replacement. ($30,000 to $40,000 per year)

Kerry Adams: What is the cost of maintenance of this piece of equipment?

Rex McKinsey: Couple $1,000 per year

Discussion of bid price

George Hitchcock: Can staff assemble..Been reassured by RM and LR…confident.  Would have gone higher $26011.

Phil Tarvers: Knows we need maintenance, but how much can the staff do?  We need to spend more time making money and less time spending money.  Where are the test results of the rotten pilings?  There is a lot of man hours involved doing this kind of work.  Rex McKinsey’s plate is full.  We need to start bringing in large amounts of money.  Professionals do this kind of work, not sure if staff can do it, will we need to hire someone to do this.  Looking for balance with spending and earning.  Survey the entire pier to fix it all at once and go to the town for the money.

George Hitchcock: Envisioned Rex McKinsey as a leader and not hands on.  We would need to bring on an additional staff member.  The PPPC was formed because the town did not maintain the pier and we do.  This can be done in the winter.

Kerry Adams:  Agrees with George Hitchcock.  This is an opportunity to be proactive.  Not only we need to make revenue we need to save money.  Kick the bid up to $26k.

Rex McKinsey: Point of clarification, Rex McKinsey and Luis Ribas have the experience.

A motion was made to increase the bid from $25,011 to $26,511 and that the bid be authorized.

Kerry Adams: had a discussion w/ Ms. Fox.  Thrilled with the idea of photographs.  Something similar to what is at Cabral’s pier.  Canvas is expensive.  Find a way to raise money for this project.  She will see what kind of cost we are looking at.

Phil Tarvers: Greg Morris has a giclay printer, 48 inches wide.  Find out who did Cabral’s pictures and get the cost.

Trap Sheds

Discussion

Kerry Adams: Reduce fee for first year as an incentive.  The hours of operation become an issue.

Phil Tarvers: Artists are not business people.  We need a coordinator to put people together.  The woman in Hyannis or local talent.  Hand holding required.

George Hitchcock: Agrees with Kerry Adams.  Once there there with a for rent sign they will come.  Took a look at 10W and the shed is too wide for the space.  The size of that shed should be adjusted to fit the space.  10W has their own shed.

Rex McKinsey: Sandy Silva going to wait until next season.  1E’s shed will be placed in between power pedestal for 10W and the shed for 9W.

Rex McKinsey: Will check with Pine Harbor to downsize one shed if still possible.
