Present: Len Clingham (Chair), George Hitchcock (Vice Chair), Kerry Adams, Lee Ash

Public Statements

 

None

 

Water Quality Grant:

 

Rex McKinsey: presented background of grant application.

 

Importance: 3 years of water quality data required to get into the Marine Estuaries Projects of the MEP

 

Kerry Adams: What kind of contribution from Truro and CCNSS

 

Rex McKinsey: In kind only at this time.

 

Kerry Adams: Would like a commitment from both

 

Lee Ash: Can we estimate their contribution?

 

Rex McKinsey: Bacteria sampling and nutrient sampling take place in tandem.

 

Len Clingham: 3 year program: is this grant for all 3?

 

Rex McKinsey: No, just the one year

 

George Hitchcock: Is somebody else testing the water?

 

Rex McKinsey: Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies is doing similar testing

 

Kerry Adams: Attended estuaries project overview last year, do we get the same # of test sites?

 

Rex McKinsey: Yes

 

Kerry Adams: How is the retrieval of data to be accomplished?

 

Rex McKinsey: Our staff as well as others, 12 volunteers in Provincetown alones will be required, for a total of 6 times in the summer.

 

Lee Ash: Concerned about the time involved.

 

Rex McKinsey: will coordinate with Wellfleet to deliver to Dartmouth.

 

George Hitchcock: Can’t we ship via Fedex?

 

Rex McKinsey: Volunteers will take to Dartmouth

 

Lee Ash: Concerned with staff used in the project.

 

Rex McKinsey:  Volunteers are a necessary role.  Coordination meetings will take place after the grant is awarded to work out details.  Bringing in the PCC is very important.  Get Dartmouth comfortable enough so that we can use the PCC’s labs.

 

Kerry Adams: When will we know?

 

Rex McKinsey: Late winter/early spring

 

A motion was made to due the necessary diligence and apply for the grant and commit up to $2000.

Lee Ash: Getting more and more comments from business people in town as to what kind of businesses we are going to be doing on the pier.  Reiterate our cautious and slow moving pace in this regards.  What about our ad in the paper?

 

Rex McKinsey: Working on it

 

A general discussion of retail activities occurred.

 

Lee Ash: the ad should be placed after 1st of year.

 

Rex McKinsey: Going away on vacation soon

A motion to recess until the Board of Selectman’s portion of the meeting
