Proposed Right Whale DMA

 

Rex McKinsey presented Information provided by NOAA

 

The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies wants option 6, most likely to succeed in protecting Right Whales

 

Bay State Ferry: Loss Income to the PPPC if they if they stop operation $80K+

 

PBG estimates that each passenger spends on average $250.00 per day: $2M loss per 15-day period of shut down

 

Rex McKinsey: A letter to MOAA has to be written by 10/5/06.

 

Len Clingham: Tricky regulation, economic devastation to PPPC and town.  Concerned of what will happen to the town if the ferries stop.

 

Phil Tarvers: PCC is not on board w/ the town’s best interest.  It wants the most stringent rules.

 

The BoS will be meeting on this issue 9/25/06.

 

George Hitchcock: Since no right whales have knowingly been hit, feels that the regulation is over kill and that a letter should definitely be written.

 

A motion was made to draft a letter to NOAA stating our position on these DMA’s.

AFFC Grant Notice Of Intent

 

Candace Nagle presented her grant research to the board amongst other ideas. As requested her statements have been entered into the meeting minutes (See Scanned Documents)

 

 

A motion was made to approve the use of Float Space 8W by Candace Nagle for the winter months for an art exhibit.

Candace Nagle would like a motion giving her approval to move forward with these 2 grant applications w/ the town grant coordinator.

 

A motion was made to give approval to Candace Nagle to pursue the development of the “Pier Your Arts” program and to continue with the grant writing process in regards to the “Pier Your Arts”.

 

Len Clingham: Asked if Phil Tarvers would be willing to work with Candace Nagle and develop the” Pier Your Arts” program.

Scrim Whale: requests that the PPPC adopt the Scrim Whale as it’s first public art display.  It will be purchased at auction by Steve Miliken and he would like to have it on the pier at its summer location.

 

A motion was made to allow the Scrim Whale, once/if purchased and donated, to be placed on the pier at the location it occupied this summer.

A motion was made to ask Candace Nagle to pursue guidelines for a contest to solicit ideas for economic/cultural ideas for the pier and to participate in a workshop with selected PPPC board members at the earliest convenient time.

Phil Tarvers: The process of getting a new member on the board is somewhat tainted because the selectman pick them and we are the ones who have to work with them.  Feels that the PPPC Board should have some input as to whom we would like to work with.

 

George Hitchcock: Should we write a letter to the BoS to request involvement in the selection process of a new board member?

 

Phil Tarvers (continued): Brought up Boats & Harbors Publication as a source of information.  Would like to receive updates on the end results of actions taken based upon board votes/motions/hearings.
