Meeting of the Open Space Committee, December 21, 2007, 11:15-1:00, Provincetown Town Hall

 

Attending:  Celine Gandolfo, Steve Milkewicz, and Dennis Minsky (recorder)

 

-general discussion re Land Bank funds, the state of our account, self-help grants, and state highway funds

 

-general discussion of the role of Open Space Committee:

 

1)      research properties re purchase with Land Bank and other funds, for open space, recreation, and conservation purposes

2)      bring properties for purchase to Town Meeting

3)      negotiate with parties re land purchases – less clear on this:  the town, or this committee?

 

Other matters discussed: 

 

SIGNEAGE:  all signs on all conservation properties in Provincetown should be consistent, in terms of presentation and content;  this effort should be coordinated with the Conservation Commission and the Conservation Trust;  properties under the Open Space designation:

 

Nicky’s Park  and the adjacent parcel      (needs 2 signs)

Whistle Path Woods (Locke property)     (needs 2 signs)

Curtis property                                          (needs 1 sign)

Shank Painter                                            (needs 2 signs)

 

The above are INTRO signs;  we should also think about INFO signs

 

MAPS  Celine will call Dana Faris and order another set

 

CPC REPRESENTATIVE   Celine Gandolfo was voted our representative to the CPC

 

LETTER FOR OLGA OPSIL/ HARRY KEMP WAY:  we agreed to write her a supporting letter in her efforts to preserve that property

 

OFFER FROM TED MALLONE to show us the cartway on his property, for possible signeage

 

SOIL STERILIZATION:  can you sterilize soil by simply covering it for a season:  a matter to research

 

We resolved at our next meeting to view maps and make a list of possible properties to acquire
