OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE MEETING

 September 3, 2002
 Members present: Celine Gandolfo, Robin Evans, Stephen Milkewiez.
 Meeting called to order 9:05AM

 Locke property/Whistle Path Woods Management Plan
 Discussion with Mark Latour, Asst Town Manager
 A. Dogs:
 Dog walking to be allowed but not specific use as "dog park."
 suggest change in town ordinance to allow as dog "off-leash area.
 "Scoop the poop" bags and trash barrels needed at entrances
 at Howland St, Foss Woods and Snail Rd. Trash barrels of the
 kind contained in wooden boxes. Bags to include signage with
 educational information on hazards of dog waste to wildlife and habitat.

  B. Trail
  Maintain existing trail as currently being done by COA volunteers.
  To investigate loop trail system and its impact to wildlife.

 C.  Signage
  Replace currnet sign with small inconspicuous sign at foot of trail.
  Discussion of further signage with history and information to be continued.

 D. Management Plan wording
 Change funding source pg 2 to "325 individuals and businesses, visitors and  residents...."

  E. Plantings
  Discussion of possible "green" fence of indigenous plants/treesalongside RR right-of-way   

particularly by house bordering Whistle Path Woods.

  F. Land Acquisition
  Request of Asst Town Manager to research 12 foot swath of land bordering Whistle Path Woods. Currently owners unknown.
