TOWN OF PROVINCETOWN, OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE

Minutes for June 25, 2002

The Meeting of June 25, 2002 was called to order in the Judge Welsh Room of Provincetown Town Hall, at 9:10 A.M. by Celine Gandolpho, Co-Chair. Also present were Robin Evans, Hatty Walker Fitts and Steve Milkewitz. Members of the Public were John Fowler and Selectman Michelle Coutour

Questions from the Public:

a) Discussion re land for Dog Park

John Fowler brought to the Committee an offer regarding having a Dog Park in Town. John indicated that he and his Partner are interested in helping to fund preparing a piece of Town land for this Dog Park. The Park would be a fenced in area where dogs could run and would have some sort of water supply. The Committee members felt that this might be a good use for either one of the leaching fields (though there is some concern about a dog getting out and running into the highway) and some land behind the VFW. Michelle Coutour also indicated that the Selectmen would be interested in pursuing such an idea. Celine Gandolfo, as Chair of the Committee, gave John some names of people to contact to get further information to see if such a Park would be a viable option.

b) Information Folder

Michelle Coutour indicated that the Selectmen would be very interested in having the Open Space Committee take the Selectmen on a Tour of the lands held by the Town for Open Space. It was agreed this might best be done in September. She was also interested in hearing about the idea of the Open Space Committee producing a pamhlet for the public about these lands and walking trails.

Approval of Minutes:

A motion was made by Celine Gandolfo, seconded by Steve Milkewitz, to approve the minutes of the June 7, 2002 meeting. All present voted Aye.

Certificates of Appreciation:

A motion was made by Hatty Walker Fitts, seconded by Robin Evans, to give Certificates of Appreciation to out former Committee Members. This Certificate will be designed by Celine Gandolfo. All voted Aye.

Letter to Selectmen:

The Committee agreed to send a letter to the Selectmen covering the following points:

a) Thanking them for re-appointing the Committee;

b) Having a meeting this summer to review the Committee’s plans;

c) Having a walking tour in September.

Gale Force Property:

Celine Gandolpho agreed to write to the owner of the porperty to find out the current position of selling the land.

Election of Officers:

Election of Officers was postponed to the next meeting.

Next Meeting:

The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, July 9^th at 9 AM. The agenda will include (a) approval of minutes; (b) election of officers; (c) discussion of implementing aspects of the Shank Painter Management Plan; (e) the dog run; (f) Gale Force property; (g) goal time lines; (h) information from the Conservation Commission; and (g) other business.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM.
