Provincetown Open Space
Commiftee
Minutes - Wednesday February
13, 2002
Meeting called to order at
2:05 pm
Members present: Fred
Berger, Celine Gandolfo, Robin Evans, Miriam Collinson, Steve MilkivAcz
(alternate)
Guests present: Mindy
Baransky
1. Mindy Baransky, member of the Town Planning Board, presented
her views in favor of the establishment of a,rown Planner (which was recently
rejected by Selectpeople)
Committee members expressed
their concern that a docwnent she presented suggested that the Planner would
suggest a variety of uses for the Route 6 property to be transferred to the
town. Our committee feels that the only
acceptable use for that property is for open space.
The committee voted 5-0 to
endorse the concept of a Town Planner.
Celine will compose an email stating our support, mentioning our
concerns (above)
11. Land Bank Property Management
Committee discussed the need
to coordinate with the DPW and the Conservation Commission regarding funds for
signs at the two Land Bank properties.
Celine m4li present our management plans at the Feb. 28 Conservation
Commission meeting if we can get on that agenda
ITI. Property Acquisition
The committee continued our
previous discussion of potential Land Bank purchases. We discussed the possibility of meeting with Ted Malone and the
Affordable Housing Committee We discussed the possibility of putting an article
on the Town Meeting agenda to reverse last year's decision to take 35% of the
Land Bank funds for affordable housing.
Robin felt that if we did that we should have an alternate proposal to
raise funds for affordable housing (such as a 1% tax on real estate
transactions). No definite decision was
made.
Meeting adjow-ned at 4:05
pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Fred Berger, Acting
Secretary
