Minutes of Meeting August 18, 2004
Meeting held in the Provincetown Police Station
Members Present: James Cole, Chair; Marcia Fair, Vice-Chair; C.J. Noyes, Secretary, Anita Berman, Sandy Fay
Others Present: Debra DeJonker-Berry, Library Director (joined at 5:08pm)

Call to Order: James Cole called the meeting to order at 5:05 pm.
Public Statements: There were none.
Minutes: Marcia Fair moved and CJ Noyes
seconded the motion to approve the June 2, 2004 minutes as corrected. The vote
was 5-0 in favor. Marcia Fair moved and Anita Berman seconded the motion to
approve the June 16, 2004 minutes as submitted. The vote was 5-0 in favor.
3. Chairman’s Report: Jim reported on electrical inspections in the new building, and
said the framing is 85% complete. Jim presented five change orders for the
Board to approve before sending a memo to the Selectmen.
Motion:
Marcia Fair moved and Anita Berman seconded the motion to approve Change Orders
#9 through #15. The vote was 5-0 in favor.
Motion:
Marcia Fair moved Sandy Fair seconded the motion to raise the Captial Campaign
Committee’s fundraising goal by $51,750 to cover the change orders. Vote 5-0 in
favor.
Jim
also reported that the building is on a tight schedule and progressing well.
4. Director’s Report: Debbie presented the Provincetown Public Library’s Goals,
Objectives and Activities and asked for input.
5. Capital Campaign Committee: Marcia
Fair presented the Monthly Cash Report showing an increase of $136,558 for a
total of $644,726; a total of 1,066 gifts; and eight new gifts including
1. $100,000 from the Fowler-Bombardier
Family Charitable Trust to name the Children’s Library, 2. an announced $100,000
gift to name the Historic Front Lobby, and 3. $10,000 from Rose Basile and
Carol Noyes to name the Poet’s Corner.
Marcia
also presented the Capital Campaign Monthly Gift Report showing $837,839 total
cash and pledges, and $52,122 non-cash gifts.
Marcia
reported the following: Anne Packard has donated a painting, “Red and White
Boat” valued at approximately $6,000, for auction. There will be a jewelry sale
Sunday, September 5 11-3pm. We are in need of jewelry, baked goods and
volunteers.
There
will be a benefit for the Library on September 17 during the Schooner Regatta.
The
Fowler-Bombardier wedding invitation asked for gifts to be made to the Library.
So far, $7,150 has been received.
Marcia
Fair moved and Jim Cole seconded the motion for the Board to send a condolence
letter to Michael MacIntyre on the death of his husband, Bob Anderson. The vote
was 5-0 in favor.
6. Other Business and Correspondence: Debbie asked the Board to
consider allowing a writer to run a workshop for a fee in the Library, if the
writer were to pay a percentage to the Library. Discussion ensued and a
consensus reached that the Board should pursue a policy, perhaps one similar to
the policy governing the art wall.
Next Meeting: The next meeting is
scheduled for Wednesday, September 22, 5:15pm
in
the Conference Room of the Police Station..

Fay moved and C.J.Noyes seconded the motion to adjourn at 5:52pm. The vote was
5-0 in favor.
