Provincetown Local Housing Partnership

Minutes from Meeting of January 28, 2004

Caucus Hall

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 PM.

Members present were Chairman AJ Alon; Tim Hazel; Cindy Bowes; and Scott Campbell.  Also present were Deputy Community Development Director Mark Latour; Michael Bunn of Community Housing Resources; and Jim McGowan.

Michael Bunn discussed the proposed deed restriction for 40A Nelson Avenue.  Mr. Bunn indicated that all of the six affordable units would be rental units, and that the name of the project is Provincetown Heights, Inc.  Occupancy is expected in May, 2004.

Tim Hazel made a motion to recommend that the Board of Selectmen approve and execute the affordable housing deed restriction for this property.  Scott Campbell seconded.  All voted in favor.

Jim McGowan discussed the need for seasonal housing, and indicated that land at the airport should be considered, and that the Federal Government would probably allow development of affordable housing on this property.  Jim suggested that building seasonal housing would help to open up year-round housing for many in Town.

Mr. McGowan indicated that the Town should not focus on building single family homes, but that it should build dormitory housing.  Jim indicated that he had received a map from the Assessor’s office showing 55 buildable parcels in Town, where development could occur.

Mr. McGowan also indicated that if you build elderly housing projects, that this will also free up year round housing in Town.

The Partnership members discussed these comments, and adjourned at 1:35 PM.
