Meeting Minutes of

Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Meeting Room A

Chair Gail Browne convened the meeting at 4:07 PM noting the following members present: Gail Browne, Mary Ann Cabral, Olympia Ciliberto, Bill Schneider. Alternate Member Eleanora Irving was also present. Anita Berman was absent from the meeting.

Also attending the meeting to provide a public statement was Jessica Waugh, Superintendent of Provincetown Public Schools.

MOTION: Move to approve the minutes from October 11, 2006.

Chair Browne distributed copies of the opinion of counsel sent from the law firm of Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane on behalf of the Provincetown Public Schools relating to the John Anderson Francis Family Scholarships.

Jessica Waugh, Superintendent of Provincetown Public Schools stated Provincetown Public Schools is a stakeholder in this matter.

A discussion ensued about how information has been disseminated to students regarding scholarships, eligibility and the application process.

The Committee also discussed the past practice of processing scholarship applications and identified criteria that will be researched to determine if a long-standing practice exists to award scholarships to Provincetown High School seniors who are non-residents of Provincetown and Truro.

The Committee reviewed two additional requests received from upper classmen who were recipients of scholarship awards. One request was incomplete. One request was from a graduate with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

MOTION: To award the upperclassman recipient of the John Anderson Francis Family Scholarship $1,250 to the graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A discussion ensued regarding Board membership.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 PM.
