Meeting Minutes of

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Meeting Room A

 

Chair Gail Browne convened the meeting at 4:05 PM noting the following members present:  Anita Berman, Gail Browne, Mary Ann Cabral, Olympia Ciliberto, Bill Schneider.  Alternate Member Eleanora Irving was also present.

 

MOTION:  Move to approve the minutes from October 4, 2006.

Motion by: Gail Browne; Seconded by:  Mary Cabral; Yea: 5  Nay: 0 Abstain: 0

 

Chair Browne distributed copies of the opinion from Town Counsel to members of the Committee for review.  After a brief discussion, the Board agreed to meet again on November 15th to discuss the opinion.

 

Chair Browne provided a recap of the accounting of the fund balances as of September 30, 2006 as follows:

 

$14,516.85 - Oliver Fund

$15,143.04 – Francis Fund

$29,659.89 – TOTAL

 

The Committee reviewed 5 additional requests received from upper classmen who were recipients of scholarship awards.  Three of those requests were from graduates with GPAs of 3.0 or higher and two were from graduates with GPAs of less than 3.0.

 

MOTION:  To award the upperclassmen recipients of the John Anderson Francis Family Scholarships $1,250 to those graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and $750 to those graduates with a GPA of less than 3.0.

Motion by: Olympia Ciliberto; Seconded by:  Bill Schneider; Yea: 4  Nay: 0 Abstain: 2 (MC, EI)

 

The Committee reviewed the total number of scholarship requests and recommended 11 scholarships in the amount of $1,250 each (for a total of $13,750) be paid from the Oliver Fund and nine scholars in the amount of $750 each (for a total of $6,750) be paid from the Francis Fund.

 

MOTION:  To award 11 upperclassmen with a GPA of 3.0 or higher $1,250 each (for a total of $13,750) to be paid from the Oliver Fund; and to award nine upperclassmen with a GPA of less than 3.0 $750 each (for a total of $6,750) to be paid from the Francis Fund.
