A Work Session commenced at 9:00 AM.

 

V. Wohlfarth brought in some photos and drawings of changes that she would like to do in creating an art gallery in a rented ground floor space of a residential building at 404 Commercial Street. The Commission supplied her with ideas and suggestions.

 

A motion was made to accept the membership of Fred Pappalado as a regular member of the Historical Commission.

John Dowd called the Public Hearing to order at 9:30 with each member of the Commission introducing themselves.

Case #2003-055      Joy Cuming of Architects Studio Ltd. on behalf of Freddi Levin Revocable Trust, 604 Commercial Street.  Architect to submit revised plans for final approval.

 

It was moved to accept the revised plans as presented with the conditions stated at the meeting of July 2, 2003.

Case  #2003-058      Mike Myers on behalf of Lorraine DeProspo, 3 Carver Street,  [Map/Parcel 11-1-13; MHC #09; Historic Name: House; Date: 1850; Style: Greek Revival] Construct second floor deck on roof of existing porch.

 

Some members of the Historical Commission made a site visit. A motion was made to deny the application.

Roger Keene made suggestions and John Dowd suggested that Mike Myers do research into styles of the period.

 

The decision was tabled until Mike Myers returns with more information.

Mello, 14 Standish Street,  [Map/Parcel 12-1-52; MHC #768; Historic Name: Side hall cottage; Date: 1850-70; 1910-30; Style: Greek Revival; sash, entry & dormer alt.] Construct first floor deck on back of house off of the kitchen.  Wooden door will replace window.

 

No representative appeared for this application.

 

Case #2003-060      John A. Lisbon on behalf of Mary Kate Murphy and Kathy Spigner, 4 Atkins Lane,  [Map/Parcel 15-1-69; MHC #518; Historic Name: Central chimney ¾ cottage; Date: c 1800-30; c 1970; Style: Timber frame, roof raised] Replace windows, skylights and doors with full view doors.

 

A motion was made to approve this application with the following conditions: Replace door on east side with a panel base/top glass door; captured square balusters on the 2nd floor east side; all windows will have permanently applied exterior muntins and be 2/2 trimmed out in kind; front door will be the same as the east side.

A motion was made to accept the application with the following conditions: windows will be 2/2 and front door will be a P-town door.

Store (?); Date: c 1860-80; Style: Italianate] First floor façade – replace fixed windows with double-hung 6/9 sash and replace door entablature with raised panel with side lights; rear façade – replace sliding doors with French (15 lite) doors, foundation level – new 6 lite window over direct vent fireplace and replace ground level door with 8 lite/15 lite French doors.

 

A discussion ensued with the owners and designers request regarding the change in the storefront.

 

The plans were approved with the following conditions: south elevation accepted as proposed; north elevation will retain its intact Victorian storefront facade; there will be an operating transom light over front door; east elevation will have 2 properly spaced 2/2 windows individually cased to replace bay window; west elevation will have one or two windows. John Dowd will be the contact person.

This case will be held over to the next meeting for revised plans from the designer.

 

Case #2003-065      Neal Kimball on behalf of Brian DeLaurentis, 5 Pearl Street, [Map/Parcel 12-2-39; MHC # None; Historic Name: Cottage; Date: 1880; Style: Victorian gothic] Add shed dormer on South side, increase size of existing doghouse dormer on North side, add external masonry chimney and one window on North side, replace rear deck and add spiral stairs to grade.

 

The plans were approved with the following conditions: square double hung window to replace transom in rear elevation in gable.
