Meeting of

Members Present: Ardis Markarian, Stephen Milkewicz, and Roger Keene

 

Excused Absence: John Dowd, Lawrence Riley, and Austin Knight

 

Town Hall Representative: Maxine Notaro, Permit Coordinator (also taking minutes)

 

From 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM there was a work session and a general discussion of the Cases to be presented at this meeting.

 

The regular meeting was called to order at 9:30 AM.

 

New Business

 

Case #2002-081      Leslie Burnell on behalf of B.J.W. G. Corp., 374 Commercial Street, [Map/Parcel 12-2-027; MHC #310; Historic Name: Cottage; Date: 18740-60; Style: Greek Revival] Remove two front existing third floor windows and replace with three windows. Replace remaining third floor windows; add two skylights and remove chimney.

 

There was discussion between the Commission members and the representative for the owners of the house. The Commission members felt that some of the changes requested would not be conforming. Various suggestions were given until it was moved to approve the changes with the following conditions and compromises:

 

1.                  To retain the original façade of front gable (two existing windows).

2.                  Allow the applicant to remove the chimney.

3.                  Allow one skylight for stairwell area.

4.                  Doghouse dormer to match the existing one with window trim package for 3rd floor windows.

5.                  3rd floor windows to be 2/1 or 6/6 whichever the applicant chooses. Trim to match existing factory applied exterior muntins.

Case #2002-082            Michael Myers on behalf of Maurice Grunberg, 87 Bradford Street, [Map/Parcel 1-3-59; MHC #1134; Historic Name: Sidehall Cottage; Date: 1820-1850, 1900-1940; Style: Timber frame, sash and siding] Construct supported canopy roof to front porch, shorten and square off deck and replace deck boards and railings.

 

Mr. Myers explained the changes he would like to make and listened to suggestions from the Commission members. He agreed with the conditions stipulated by the Commission.

 

It was moved to approve the changes with the following conditions:

 

1.                  Bead board skirt to be around the deck.

2.                  Captured balusters, square balusters, corner post to have a simple cap.

3.                  Porch roof to be replaced with a flat canopy attached to house, 4’ x 3’, to be held up with corbels.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 AM.
