There was a work session prior to the public meeting to discuss the cases that will be presented at the formal meeting and any changes to the requests that the Historical Commission might have.

Gino Verzone called the regular meeting to order at 9:30 AM.

Old Business

Case #2002-062         Tom Thompson, 586 Commercial Street [Map/Parcel 15-3-53; MHC #460; Historic Name: Central chimney, full cottage; Date: 1820-40; c 1960-88; Style: Federalist; major alterations] Add two small gabled dormers to east side roof, add west side shed dormer and roof deck and add northeast secondary egress.

Tom Thompson did not appear.

New Business

Case #2002-063         John Spazzarini, 4 Carver Street [Map/Parcel 07-2-172; MHC #1130; Historic Name: ¾ cottage; Date: 1800-30; Style: timber frame]          Remove first floor side kichen window and install 6’x 6’8” sliding door.

Roger Keene brought to the attention of the Commission that the windows in the cottage were changed without Historical Commission review.

Ardis Markarian stated that the Historical Commission has a general policy not encouraging sliders and suggested a single door with windows on each side (or one side). Gino Verzone mentioned the door could be the “P-town” door with window.

John Spazzarini was given the following options:

1.         Three windows of the same size as existing window. 2 over 1 muntin configuration with permanently applied exterior muntins.

2.         36” door flanked by two 2 over 1 windows. The new door to match existing door. Windows cased to match existing ones.

It was moved to approve with the above with the options.
