Discussion of Mass DPH Report, “Sanitary Survey of Ryder Street Beach

Beach cleanup status with ConCom and purchase of Beach Rake and tractor.

Rex wanted to discuss the DPH report with the Committee.  He wasn’t in attendance but the Harbor Committee read it over and made a few comments on it.

Phil Scholl commented that he felt the DEP wanted to help a lot.  The meeting with them was held in February and it was reported that there were 51 properties on Commercial Street that are not on the sewer – and should be.  The BoH suggested running a dye check.  One thought was that dog poop bags should be placed on Commercial Street because anything “deposited” would be part of the run-off in a rain storm and foul the harbor.  Another idea was that the catch basins should be cleaned more frequently.  Going for a 319 grant for the Ryder Street beach was discussed as well.

There is a map on the different outfall pipes and yet another thought was that the Town could increase the street sweeping.  Areas of concern were Ryder, Johnson, Franklin Streets and Kendall Lane.

These recommendations were all in the booklet that was passed around.

Beach Rake update

Jerry sent everyone on the Committee a “SHOT DOWN!!!” e-mail regarding his meeting with the Board of Selectmen (BoS) on Monday, March 10th.  The Committee’s proposal to buy a beach rake and tractor from the Harbor Access Gift Fund was firmly denied by the BoS.

Save our Shores Group

Rex found a plan orchestrated in 2007 by the Save Our Shores group that mandated that the Town shall clean up the beaches.  So much for follow-thru!

Harbor Access Fund Aims

Mel Cote suggested that the Harbor Committee come up with another project to access the Harbor Access Fund.  He proposed either widening the West End Boat Ramp OR – better yet – building a new boat ramp in the area of the Provincetown Inn.  This locale would give easier access for larger boats and wouldn’t cause the traffic problem of emptying the harbor of small craft for any impending storm.

Mandated Sewer Hook-ups

The Harbor Committee felt that they should recommend that both 47 Commercial Street and 481 Commercial Street should hook-up to the sewer.

Any other business that shall properly come before the Committee

Adjournment happened at 5:00 p.m.

Next HC meeting: Wednesday, March 26 in Town Hall at 4:30 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Evelyn Rogers Gaudiano
