REGULAR MEETING

PROVINCETOWN HOUSING AUTHORITY

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

A regular meeting of the Provincetown Housing Authority was called to

order by Bryan Green, Chair, on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at

5:15 pm in the Maushope Common Room at 44 Harry kemp Way, Provincetown.

PRESENT:     Bryan Green, Chair

                        Cheryl Andrews, Vice-Chair

                        George Bryant, Commissioner

                        Diana Fabbri, Recording Secretary

ABSENT:       Cathy Reno Brouillet, Commissioner, excused;

                        Nancy Jacobsen, Commissioner, excused,

                        Patrick Manning, Executive Director, excused.

PUBLIC STATEMENTS:

Towanda McClure read her letter to the Board, regarding making

Maushope a smoke-free building and that Representative Sarah Peake

has taken over the issue.  Towanda reported that she’d spoken with the

Orleans Housing Authority and the Barnstable Housing Authority.

                        B. Green said that the issue is now in Sarah Peake’s court.

                        G. Bryant said that the PHA should set a time and date when

there will be no smoking in the building.

COMMISSIONER’S STATEMENTS:

                        C. Andrews thanked B. Green for being on the CPC Committee.

                        C. Andrews said that she sees the value of people resigning from Town

                        Boards.

                        G. Bryant said that there has been a huge turnover on the PHA Board.

                        C. Andrews said that there is a lot of discussion around about housing

                        authorities to regionalize.

                        G. Bryant recomputed the 2007-2008 handbook and that Orleans has twice

the population of Provincetown and their budget is almost identical to

Provincetown’s.  Half of their budget is for schools.  Eighty-seven percent

of population on Cape Cod starts in Harwich.  Town of Barnstable is ten

times larger and has a budget of one hundred fifty-million dollars.                                               Provincetown has a way of spending money that other towns don’t.
