Appeal Health Agents Decision - Bedrooms

William Rogers, II, the engineer, and Francine D’Olimpio presented the appeal.  Jane Evans did a walk-thru and the building has 4 legal bedrooms and two undersized ones.  The owner wishes to combine the two undersized bedrooms into one meaning the property would have 5 legal bedrooms.  At this point Duane Gregory disclosed that both she and Jerry Anathan are licensed real estate brokers.  There was no objection to having them sit on the case.

Motion:  Move to allow the owner to combine the two under-sized bedrooms into one legal bedroom with the total gallonage not to exceed 580 gpd.

Motion:  Jerry Anathan                   Seconded:  Ken Janson          Vote:  4-0-0.

Appeal Health Agent’s Decision

Scott Caldwell, the owner, said that his current capacity is for 630 gpd and the reconfiguration he’s proposing would raise the gallonage to 631 gpd.  His plea was for the extra one gallon gpd.

Motion:  Move to increase the flow by one gallon with the following conditions:

1.     an alarm must be installed on the septic system.

2.     a septic inspection must happen every three years.

Motion:  Ken Janson    Seconded:  Jerry Anathan      Vote:  4-0-0.

Approval of Minutes for May 15, 2008

A quorum was not available to vote on the minutes.

Health Agent’s Report

Jane Evans reported that she had recently issued a permit to E-Z-DOZ IT for a line repair at 7 Oak Drive.  She was told that it was a line going from the house to the tank.  When Jane went to inspect the completed repair, she found that the line went to a cesspool, not a tank.  Jane will pursue the matter further and report back to the BoH on her findings.

Jane sent packets to the Grand Union regarding the recycle bins and they have been very cooperative.

She will soon be going to a conference in Springfield.  Every-one was asked to submit an abstract and hers (on grease traps) was accepted.

Jane is also on a team who will be finding places to re-locate Town Hall employees beginning in November ’08 for 2 or 3 years.  There will be some trailers at the Jerome Smith lot.  We may meet at the Grace Gouveia building at that time.

Board Reorganization

The following motions were made, seconded, and approved by all.

Motion:  Move to re-elect Duane Gregory as chair of the BoH.

Motion:  Move to re-elect Ken Janson as vice chair of the BoH.

Motion:  Move to re-elect Jerry Anathan as clerk of the BoH.

Health Inspector’s Reports

Brian Carlson informed the group that the summer Sanitarian from Barnstable County has started work with the Health Department and will be doing routine spot checks of restaurants.  This is done every year.

Brian also handed out informational pamphlets on ways to prevent diseases which are spread by both ticks and mosquitoes.

He was recently informed by FEMA that the grant for shutters ($200K) for Town Hall and a lesser amount for the schools has been looked favorably upon.

The meeting adjourned at 5 45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Evelyn Gaudiano
