Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

 

March 21, 2001

Meeting convened at 7:40 p.m.

 

Members present:                       Michael S. Trovato, Chief

Others present:                        Thomas Roda, Rescue Captain

                                                Jeffrey Francis

 

Chief Trovato advised the board that Francis was present to address the board regarding their vote not to approve him as Rescue Lieutenant.

 

Chief Trovato took a roll call vote of the board to go into Executive Session.  All board members were in favor.  Meeting will re-convene into an open forum.

 

Old Rescue Vehicle 196 discussed.

 

Letter will be sent to Loring Russell asking him to move the vehicle from the station parking area.

 

House Reports

 

#1 - Scott Martin needs a Fire coat and Helmet.

 

#2 – Drill will be held at the Air Force Base for #2 & #3 on April 1, 2001.

 

Rescue – Bug Shield needed. Cost: $100.00.

                Fog Lamps needed. Cost: $200.00 will be purchased in July.

 

Tim Rowell asking to attend Infection Control class at Main Station.

Rowell has been suspended and will not be allowed to take the class in   

the Provincetown Station.

 

Two (2) positions will be added to the squad’s membership July 1, 2001.

 

Elder Services would like to hold a class at the Main Station re Elder Services         available to elderly citizens.                      

 

Summer Rescue Standby Positions will be advertised.

Funds available in FY2001 Budget will be researched.

Positions will be available from May 1, 2001 to December 31, 2001.

 

Advanced Driver Training Course will be scheduled in the near future.

 

#3  - Application for membership received from Alan Felton. 

 

Motion: Alexander motion to accept Alan Felton Back into the Fire Dept.; Wolf seconded the motion; All in favor.

 

 House members agreed to wait until May to vote for the Captain of #3.

                              

#5  - Progress of work at Station #5 discussed.

 

Battery Conditioner needs to be updated with Cup Adapters, part # TDN                                    9435C, Cost for 3 - $78.66. They will be ordered from Motorola.

Motion: Wolf motioned to purchase 3 cups for conditioner; Alexander seconded the motion; All in favor.

 

Radio Communications discussed.  Eastham Fire Department issues a portable radio only to the senior person on duty.  In order to contact other members they use pagers or cell phones. Chief Trovato will speak to Chief Roy Jones re other radio options.

 

Steward’s Position still up in the air.

           

Boards Comments

                  

Finance Committee approved the department’s 5-year plan to replace fire vehicles.         

                       

Chief summoned to court as a witness for the Plaintiffs regarding the 40A Nelson Ave, Provincetown Heights, Inc. development on April 11, 2001.

               

Letter received from Tim Rowell’s physician stating that he was ready to  return to work for limited duty.

 

Meeting with Tim Rowell and his Attorney Jamie Veara will be scheduled on  March 28, 2001.  The Chief will advise Mr. Veara by letter and by telephone.

 

ATM Article 24: Acceptance of Local Option Statue: credit firefighters w/full-time service pension rights recommended by Finance Committee.
