Board of Fire Engineers
Meeting convened at 7:40 p.m.

Chief Trovato took a roll call vote to go into Executive Session to discuss the terms of Francis’s membership in Engine Company #3; All members of the board in favor of going into Executive Session.
Francis requested to have Lt. Rosemary Henrique present at the meeting.
Francis stated that while he was a member in the Wellfleet Fire Dept. he did mainly tanker shuttle and pump operations and he’d like to perform the same duties here.
Chief Trovato advised Francis that he must be certified to drive the fire truck. He added that Henrique, as Lieutenant, should notify the Chief by letter when Francis is certified to drive the fire truck. Francis will also have to participate in drills to learn to operate the pump.
Francis’s limited duty will include driving the fire truck, operate the pump, and helping personnel with equipment, Air Paks, etc.
Motion: Alexander motioned that Francis’s limited duty on the department will be to drive the fire truck to the scene of an incident, operate the pump and helping personnel with equipment, such as Air Paks, etc; Wolf seconded the motion; All in favor.
Executive session closed and meeting reconvened to an open forum.
Russell LaPorte entered the meeting at this time.
All Board members in favor of reconvening back into Executive Session.

Chief Trovato advised LaPorte that the first incident involving smoking in department vehicles occurred when the Chief saw him down town smoking in the rescue vehicle while on duty. The Chief notified the Secretary to advise LaPorte that smoking was not allowed in department vehicles. Laborite’s response to the secretary was argumentative and not very pleasant.
The second incident was when a member (Mike Benjamin) complained about being placed in an uncomfortable position when leaving the hospital after a run when another dept. member (LaPorte) went to light up a cigarette in the rescue vehicle. Benjamin asked LaPorte not to light up the cigarette but LaPorte continued to give him a hard time. Because of the smoking, Benjamin returned home from the hospital in another vehicle.
Motion: Alexander motioned that no action be taken and nothing filed in LaPorte personnel file; Wolf seconded the motion; All in favor.
Executive Session adjourned.
January 24, 2001 meeting reconvened in an open forum.
DPW Director Sandy Turner will be contacted re asking the Building & Grounds Dept. to repair the ceiling in the apparatus bay.
Motion: Wolf motioned to adjourn the meeting; Menangas seconded the motion; meeting adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
