Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

Meeting convened at 7:53 p.m.

Chief’s Report

 

Steward of 1938 LaFrance

Firemen’s Association President George Felton suggested appointing Paul Roderick as Steward of the 1938 LaFrance to the Chief. The new Stewards position will be added to FY 2010

Budget for the position. At present he will be paid $500.00 out of the Part Time Fire Line item, # 51104.

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to appoint Paul Roderick as Steward of the 1938 LaFrance; Alexander seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Painting of Main Station walls

Dan Notaro and Mike Coelho are willing to paint the hallway walls (upstairs & downstairs) at the Main Station in the fall.  They are requesting permission from the Board to purchase paint & supplies for the job.  Board in favor of granting permission as long as they use the color chart for the building and use the same color paint.

 

Motion: Alexander motioned to approve the request; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Portuguese Festival Parade

Parade will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. at the Cape Inn.  Participants should arrive no later than 2:20 p.m.

 

Air Horn repair-L.W. Bills Company

Letter received from President Harold Roeder stating his recommendations and observations. (Attached)  A new Fire Alarm Panel and Arrestor Cabinet are recommended. New equipment should be installed at the Police Station where it can be monitored 24/7.  Cost of new equipment and installation will be requested.

$6,000 in funds approved at the April 4. 2005 Annual & Special Town Meeting, Article 29 to upgrade the Emergency Fire Horn on Town Hall Roof will be used to repair & update the system.

 

 

 

 

 

Main Station Door locks.

Problem with opening Main Station Side and Back Entrance Doors discussed.  Karen of Outer Cape Locksmith was contacted in May to repair the locks but due to an illness in her family she will not be available until the middle of June.  She will be contacted again.

 

 

Rescue

 

Application for membership received from Betsy Gertz.  Gertz served the department in the past and has moved back to town.

 

Motion:  Alexander motioned to approve Gertz’s application, pending her physical exam; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Rescue Standby Policies 

Letter will be distributed to the Rescue Standby crew reminding them of the department’s policy regarding driving the rescue vehicles around town unnecessarily. A Memo will advise them to notify dispatch every time the rescue vehicle leaves the station and when it returns to the station.  James Meads of Lower Cape Ambulance will also be advised.

Malcolm Kerr Hunter completed his driving test on Engine 190 and was approved by Lieutenant Vaughn Cabral in a letter dated June 5, 2008.
