Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

 

February 4, 2007

 

 

Meeting convened at 9:30 a.m.

First Responder & CPR Training for department members discussed.

 

Lower Cape CPR Training Group (Marilyn Monks & April Silva) will instruct First Responder & CPR classes three weekends in a row - Feb. 10 & 11; Feb. 17 & 18; and Feb. 24 & 25, 2007.  Four members per station will be allowed to sign up for their preferred dates for the training. Slots will be left open for members who have vacation plans scheduled or will be out of town.

 

Motion:  Wolf motioned to schedule the three weekends stated above for all department members to obtain CPR and First Responder training; Roderick seconded the motion; All in favor.

 

Fragmentation Cage Purchase discussed. Oxygen filling system is needed to provide protection to individuals filling empty cylinders. Cost of cage researched:

Fire Tech & Safety - $3,895 + $200 for freight.

Breathing Air Systems - $4,335 + $182.68 Shipping & Handling. Weight of unit: 450 lbs.

 

Motion:  Roderick motioned to purchase the Fragmentation Cage from Fire Tech & Safety for $3,895 + $200 shipping ; Zawaduk seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Firefighter I & II Training

 

Malcolm Kerr Hunter from E190 has signed up for FF I & II in the fall at Barnstable Fire/Rescue Training Academy.

 

Application received from Duke Chamberland for Junior membership on Ladder Co. 2.

 

Motion:  Roderick motioned to accept Chamberland as a Junior member of Ladder Co. 2; Wolf seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

A physical examination is needed when Junior members are promoted to Auxiliary status.  Junior member Andrew Souza will be advised to schedule an appointment at OCHS for the exam.

 

Motion: Zawaduk motioned to move Andrew Souza up to an Auxiliary position in House #1, pending his physical exam; Wolf seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

1938 LaFrance Antique discussed.

 

Insurance coverage of vehicle will cover up to the appraisal value.  Appraisal cost of repairs needed to complete the vehicle will be obtained at Northeast Emergency Apparatus in Auburn, ME

 

Motion: Wolf motioned to have NEA perform an extensive mechanical inspection of the 1936 American LaFrance to facilitate a more concrete estimate of the restoration project costs; Zawaduk seconded the motion, All in favor.
