Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

 

November 29, 2006

 

Meeting convened at 7:40 p.m.

Chief’s Report

 

Employee Appreciation Dinner will be held on December 7, 2006 at Fanizzi’s by the Sea.

 

Underground storage tank (2000 gals) found at 333 R Commercial St. (Provincetown Boat Works, Owner- Dick Bennett). Tank was installed in July 1977. Enviro-Safe Corp., Sandwich, MA will remove the tank in December 2006.

 

Sarf review policy discussed.  Sarf reviews will be done on a weekly basis according to the Personnel Rules, Regulations and Policy.  Wolf stated that someone on the BoFE must be more involved with the Rescue Squad. The Board will meet with the Rescue Squad within the week.

 

House attendance records discussed.  Wolf stated that several times house members have requested that members with poor attendance be dealt with but the board always drags it out by giving them another chance. He added that some members actually pride themselves on never showing up to a call.  Menangas added that it was getting to the point that houses would have to be combined to get the vehicles to the scene of a call.

 

Payroll status of Fire/Rescue members living out of town discussed.  BoFE Minutes will be reviewed regarding their status.

 

House Reports

 

1936 American LaFrance discussed.

 

The Firemen’s Association voted to move ahead with the completion of the vehicle.  Scott from Northeast Emergency Apparatus will meet with Captain Flores at the Johnson Street Station to examine the vehicle.  He will submit a quote to finish the truck. Vehicle will be appraised prior to leaving town.

 

Chief Trovato will send Quirk a letter thanking him for his attempt to complete the vehicle but due to our time frame the Association has decided to pursue another avenue.  Quirk will also be advised to arrange a date with the office to remove his tools and equipment from the Johnson Street Station.

 

Motion: Wolf motioned to send A.J. Quirk a letter (as stated above); Zawaduk seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Burning of a Building Drill will be held in Truro over the weekend.

Members who have not had training in Firefighter I & II will not be allowed to participate but they can standby and watch the drill.

 

New State Sprinkler Requirements discussed.  Establishments required to install sprinkler systems must submit a plan by the deadline date of May 15, 2006.  Installation deadline is November 2007. Chief Trovato is working with Building Commissioner Doug Taylor to enforce the sprinkler regulation.

 

House and Building numbering By-Law discussed.  Police dept will begin enforcing the by-law.

 

First Responder & CPR certification discussed.  Captain White will contact Instructor April Silva in Truro.

 

Accountability tags discussed.  Firemen’s Association will pay for the equipment needed.

Captain Flores will purchase the equipment and create the tags.
