Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

Meeting convened at 8:00 p.m.

Chief’s Report

 

2007 Ambulance discussed.

 

Sole bid of $129,900.00 was received from Quality Emergency Vehicles of Natick, Mass.

for the purchase of the 2007 Ambulance.

 

Motion: Roderick motioned to recommend to the Town Manager and the Board of Selectmen to accept the bid received from EQV for $129,900.00; Wolf seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Lucien from QEV will attend the next board meeting to go over the specifications of the vehicle.

 

Appraisal of 1936 American LaFrance will be obtained for insurance purposes before it leaves town to be completed.

 

Application received from Cody Edwards for membership as a Junior firefighter.

 

Motion:  Menangas motioned to accept Cody Edwards as a Junior firefighter pending the vote of the house; Roderick seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Age requirement for young men to join as Junior members discussed.

 

Chief Trovato suggested lowering the age requirement for Juniors to 12 years old. He added that he felt once the children left 6th grade they would lose interest in joining the department.  Wolf reminded the board that Junior members are high maintenance and it is difficult to keep them interested.

Jeff Notaro will take over the Stewards position as of October 1, 2006.

 

Motion: Wolf motioned to appoint Jeff Notaro as Steward of Engine 195; Alexander seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

RESCUE

 

SARF review discussed.  Since Marilyn Monks resigned as Rescue Engineer someone must review the SARF’s monthly.  The Rescue Standby crew could have reviewed the SARF’s while they were on duty.  Chief  Trovato will speak to Rescue Captain White.

 

Replacement of old Air Lift Bags discussed. Old bags were purchased in 1993.  The service life is 8 to 10 years.  One (1) Paratech Rural Rescue Airbag system includes 1-12 Ton Bag; 1-17 Ton Bag & 1-22 Ton Bag. A trade-in allowance of $200 will be given for 3 equal bags turned in for credit.   Cost $1,845.00 

 

Motion: Alexander motioned to purchase the new air bags; Roderick seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Ladder 192

 

100 ft section of RED 2-½ inch Magna Hose needed for the Ladder truck. 

 

Motion:  Roderick motioned to purchase the hose needed for Ladder 192; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.
