Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

October 13, 2005

Meeting convened at 7:43 p.m.

Members present:                        Michael S. Trovato, Chief

                                                Adam Wolf

                                                Gerard Menangas

                                                Marilyn Monks

                                                James Roderick Jr.

Chief’s Report

Sprinkler system problems at the Main Station discussed.  Buildings & Grounds had to cut out the ceiling to access the pipes. Ceiling strapping prevented the removal of the old corroded pipes.  Decision was made to place the new piping below the ceiling.  The Chief explained that the original piping was not pitched when it was installed to allow the water to drain out.  The water sat in the pipes and corroded them therefore they had to be replaced. Mass Fire Protection repaired the system.

Rescue

Pay per Rescue Call discussed.

Letter received from Rescue Lieutenant Alan Felton informing the board that three (3) Paramedics were interested in participating in the system. Medics are looking for an increase in pay to $17.50 per call with a monthly minimum of 4 nights coverage.

Discussion on the request:  Monks stated that it was the first time she had heard of the request and suggested that all Paramedics are informed of the offer.

Chief Trovato stated that the Medics would be required to stay at the station while they were on duty.

Wolf added that when multiple calls were received and everyone on call had responded the system would revert back to volunteer services.

Motion:  Roderick motioned to approve Felton’s request with the stipulations discussed by the board; Monks seconded the motion; All in favor.
