Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

Meeting convened at 7:35 p.m.

Chief’s Report

 

Blessing of the Fleet Week - Pier Manager Rex McKinsey requesting a Fire Engine to hose down the “T” at MacMillan Wharf for the landing of the Coast Guard Helicopter on Friday, June 24th.  Tone Test message will be dispatched for a detail of 4 men.

 

Request for “No Parking” on Commercial St. (between Cottage & Nickerson Sts.)  Rescue & Fire vehicles are having great difficulty driving thru when cars are parked next to a telephone pole in that area.  BOS, Parking and DPW Administrators advised.

 

Rescue vehicle 196 lights damaged discussed.

Trees overhanging in the area of 174-176 Bradford St damaged the box lights on Rescue Vehicle 196 while he was driving the vehicle advised Russell.  DPW will be asked to trim the trees.

 

Large Metal cabinet behind the ladder truck discussed.  Captain Martinez will be asked if he is still using the cabinet.  If not the cabinet will be disposed of.

 

Engine 194 has problems with the pump going into gear.  Chief recommended that AJ take the truck apart after the 4th of July to determine what the cost of repair will be.

 

Motion:  Roderick motioned to get an estimate from AJ on the cost of repairing the vehicle; Menangas seconded the vehicle, All in favor.

 

Three (3) new Dell Computers w Color Printers will be ordered thru the MIS Dept.

 

Hummer will be moved to the Airport.  Access to the Hummer is a top priority. Butch will be advised that the Chief must have access to the vehicle for Med Flights and various other emergency calls.  Someone should be change of the vehicle. 

 

Ladder 192 - Installation of Akron Model # 1494, Detachable Electric ladder Pipe with Model # 5077 Electric Controlled Akronmatic Master Nozzle discussed.

 

Motion: Roderick motioned to have Emergency Vehicles of Maine install the Nozzle on Ladder 192; Alexander seconded the motion, All in favor.

Ladder will be tested at the same time.

 

Cleaning of blinds at Main Station discussed.  Question of how blinds are cleaned discussed.  Another estimate will be requested from Scott Carreiro. (Phone number on file has been disconnected)

 

Training discussed.

 

Managing a May Day Class will be scheduled in the fall.  Haz Mat course will also be scheduled for the fall.

 

Form for new members to sign when joining the department discussed. A copy of the department rules & regulations will be given to applicants along with the application. When the board approves them they will be asked to sign the form certifying they understand and will comply with department rules & regulations.

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote, effective June 1, 2005; Roderick seconded the motion; All in favor.

 

Purchase of drafting tank discussed.  Cost of tank will be obtained.
