Members would pay 100% of the insurance cost.  It would not cost the town anything but would offer affordable insurance to volunteer members.  Letter will be forwarded to the Town Manager’s office.

New Rescue Call System discussed.  Monks advised the board of the coverage statistics of the system.  From October 2003 thru January 2004 the majority of shifts had been covered.

The Chief asked why a squad system was not implemented.

Monks trying to filter in the LCA crew but they were not interested in working.  Monks added that with a squad system people would be asked to commit to certain nights every week. Those that did commit to the call system, did cover their shifts and if they couldn’t they got coverage. Calls were also down to 69 in October, 40 in November and 59 in December.  The need for new rescue squad members was discussed. Monks wondered if the department had not communicated to the town people that the department needed help.

Alexander stated that if the system was not working possibly LCA should take the whole thing over.

Wolf suggested Monks talk to the rescue members who were not getting involved in the call system and find out why they were not interested.

Chief Trovato felt that the majority of people now living in town were not working class people.  He added that they were not interested in working never mind volunteering their time.
