Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

Meeting called to order at 7:45 p.m.

House Reports

 

Engine Company #3

 

Election of Officers:  Captain Michael Smith will step down to a Regular position.

 

Captain – Craig Martin voted in as Captain by house members of #3.  House vote: 5 in  

                favor; 0 against

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote for Craig Martin as Captain of House #3, effective June 1, 2003, Alexander seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Chief Trovato would like the new Captain to hold meetings and suppers for house members.

 

Lieutenant – Rosemary Henrique voted in by house members.

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote for Rosemary Henrique as Lieutenant; seconded by Monks; Vote of the Board -Three (3) opposed, One (1) abstained, One (1) in favor.

Members of House #3 will be advised of the Boards vote.

 

Steward – Scott Enos voted in by house members.

 

Certified letter will be sent to Scott Enos requesting his presence at the next board meeting to be held on June 25, 2003 to discuss the Stewards position.

 

 

 

 

Engine Company #4

 

Election of Officers – Positions effective June 1, 2003

 

Captain – Larry Flores voted into Captain’s position by house members.  House vote: 6 in favor; 1 abstain

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote; Alexander seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

House members will stay in house and all problems will be addressed amongst themselves.

 

Lieutenant – Brian Alexander voted into Lieutenant’s position by house members.

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote; Wolf seconded the motion; Alexander left the room during the vote and discussion re his son Brian; All in favor.

 

Discussion followed re Brian Alexander not having a driver’s license.  Question arose should a Lieutenant be required to have a driver’s license.

 

David Gonsalves stepped down from his position as Steward.

 

Motion:  Menangas motioned to accept Gonsalves resignation; Adam seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Steward – Jeff Perry voted into the Steward’s position by house members.  House vote: 6 In Favor; 1 Abstain

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to accept the house vote; Wolf seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

 

Engine Company # 5

 

Members of the house voted to retain the same Officers:  Captain-Roger Martin

                                                                                            Lieutenant – Lorne Russell

 

House members voted Marcia Basine into the Stewards position.

 

Motion: Wolf motioned to accept the vote of the house; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Engine 195’s Portable Radio is still missing. Radio Shack will be advised to shut the portable down.

 

Floor in Station #5 not yet finished.  Adam Wolf is working on it.

 

Johnson Street Station roof overhang discussed.  Copper roof will be too expensive approximately $3700.

 

Motion: Wolf motioned to have Czyoski install a white rubber roof of the Johnson Street Station overhang; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Wolf replaced the damaged ceiling tiles at the Main Station with Fire retardant tiles.

 

Roof vent is still allowing water to blow into the main station building. Wolf volunteered, as a Committee of one, to find new roof vents to solve the problem.

 

Paint under radiator in Day Room is peeling.

 

Firefighter Alan Felton would like to attend the EMT Class at CCCC in the fall. He asked if the department would pay for the course.

 

Motion: Alexander motioned to pay the tuition for course and mileage; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

 

Rescue

 

Election of Officers – Rescue members voted to retain the same officers: 

                                     Captain – Tom Roda

                                     Lieutenant – Justin White

 

Motion: Monks motioned to accept the house vote; Menangas seconded the motion, All in favor.

 

Inoculations for rescue members discussed.  In the future any member voted in to the Rescue Squad will be required to have Hepatitis A & B shots and a TB test.

 

Captain Martinez & Lt. Felton will be contacted regarding a drill for the new Zoll Life Pak to be placed on Ladder 192.

 

Chief’s Report

 

Bill Dougal approached the Chief to request the use of a fire vehicle for show at a benefit at the Crown & Anchor on July 18th. JR will be asked if he knows anything about it.

 

Question arose on whether Antique Engine 194 be completed for the 4th of July Parade?  A.J. Quirk will be contacted.

 

Problems with the Hummer discussed.  A.J. Quirk will be contacted about the Hummer.

 

Radio tech Mike Smith will begin working on radios & speakers on the trucks.

 

Bert’s Emergency Vehicles will deliver new Rescue vehicle 197 on July 2, 2003.

 

Beginning in September monthly meetings will be held between Captain & Lieutenants and the Board of Fire Engineers.

 

Plaque in remembrance of the late Douglas Trumbo, Paramedic will be placed on new rescue vehicle.

 

The board will review flag designs for a Headquarters flag.

 

Lockers for Bunkrooms, 8 total, 4 in each room, will be ordered by Monks.  Cost: $1,351.60 from Nat’l Business Furniture. Color: Forest Green.

 

Junior members will be asked to help with the design of a poster to encourage high school members to join the department.
