Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

 

August 7, 2002

 

 

 

Meeting called to order at 8:10 p.m.

Chief’s Report

 

Chief Trovato informed the Board of three suspicious envelopes found around Town at three different establishments.  Flores suited up, tripled bagged the envelope and sealed it in a container.  Container will be taken to the State Lab in Boston. The Chief called the DPH and they informed him that the State Police would be coming to Town to take over the matter.

 

Engine Company #4

 

Air Compressor due to be serviced in September 2002.

 

Air Officer Benjamin will perform air quality test.  Truro has a new testing device that makes the job easier and faster.

Blow testing also needs to be done on all Air Paks.  8 Paks expire this year.

Barnstable County will be contacted to see if Air Pak testing will be scheduled for Cape departments, as they’ve done in the past, with Fire Tech & Safety.

 

8 Pass Devices needed.   Ed Lyons and American Fire will be contacted for prices.

 

Two short-handed flat shovels needed.

 

Five – 24 inch squeegees needed, one for each truck.

 

Air Bank bottles (2) were down 2000 lbs. advised Benjamin. Someone went into the room and used the Air Bank. A key from the previous Air Officer is still missing.

Authorized Personnel Only sign will be placed on the Air Bank door.

 

Air Masks should be purchased for all members in order to comply with OSHA advised Benjamin. 30 masks are needed. Approximate cost $4600.

 

Labels for tanks will be ordered.

 

Lieutenant’s position discussed.

 

Motion: Menangas motioned to appoint Larry Flores to the position of Lieutenant of Engine Co. #4; Roderick seconded the motion; six in favor, Wolf abstained; Motion carried.

 

Stewards will submit an Inventory of Equipment to the Board by 12/31/2002.

 

Kochek Hydrant fittings, in the future, will be color coded for each fire truck.

 

Hydrant valve with wheel rather than lever will be ordered.

 

Large Diameter Hose and Interior Fire Structure courses will be scheduled in the Fall with Kent Farenkopf.

 

Jeff Luce from NStar will instruct a class in Town in the fall.

 

Rescue

 

Telephone answering procedures discussed. Monks suggested a memo be sent to all Captains advising them of proper telephone procedures. Phone should be answered “Provincetown Fire Department”, state their name.  They should ask how they can help the person and take a message if necessary.
