Meeting of the Board of Fire Engineers

 

April 11, 2002

 

 

 

Meeting called to order at 7:45 p.m.

Stewards Duties discussed.

 

Branch asked what the department’s protocol was regarding the driving of fire vehicles?

 

Alexander advised him of the Steward’s duties. The Steward is responsible for the care of the equipment including the truck. The Steward should take the vehicle out for a road test at least once a week.  Also, prior to driving a fire vehicle, a new member must be in the department for at least 6 months and obtain approval from his Captain.

 

FY2003 Budget discussed.

 

Balance of funds in the Rescue Standby Line item # 51119 is $ 26,432.35.

The last payroll week in June 2001 was taken out of FY2003 budget, leaving the line item short of funds to cover the usual spring coverage. Any overtime will be taken out of the Overtime Line Item  #51105.

 

Motion: Monks motioned to cut the standby hours back during the first 3 days of the last week in May. It will be cut back from 24 hours to 12 hours a day.  The first full week in June will also be cut back to 12 hours a day for four days, Roderick seconded the motion; All in favor.

 

Rescue

 

Tine Test (TB) for Rescue members discussed.  Monks asked the Board if they would be willing to reimburse the Association, when funds became available in the FY2004 budget, if the Firemen’s Association covered the cost of the immunizations now.  The Squad will attend the next Association meeting to bring up their proposal.

 

Babysitting Course being offered at the High School by Town Nurse Judy Dutra. She would like to include a 1-hour First Aid Course on the basics.

 

Final CPR/AED Class will be held on April 18, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Station. Members will be notified by phone, letter and a message will be dispatch on the tone test.

 

Emergency Medical Training Classes for the Public discussed.  Francis would like to approach the restaurants in town to promote a couple of CPR classes for restaurant workers.  Choke Saver course would be held at the same time. Francis asked for the Boards approval to offer the classes to the public. Board in favor.  Town Health Agent will also be contacted.
