Order of business:

          A discussion was held with the Board of Selectmen and the following Memo was presented by the FinCom to the Board of Selectmen:

Dear Members of the Provincetown Board of Selectmen:

We have received the Selectmen’s FY 2008 Budget as forwarded to this committee on January 30, 2007. We have deliberated for over 19 hours spanning 5 days of hearings with our volunteers devoting over 145 hours of personal time to this effort.

We find ourselves in substantial agreement on each and every budget article forwarded by the Board of Selectmen.  While we felt it would be wiser to wait until a new Police Chief was identified before hiring new officers, we decided to support the Acting Chief when he informed us there were finally Civil Service qualified candidates in-line for these long-vacant positions.

On the matter of the Capitol Intensive Budget , we reduced item 422-4 DPW Sign Making Machine by $30,000 when it was discovered the true cost of the equipment Is only $6,095, with a new computer.

The following items were modified during the budget process to reflect updated assessments:

1.      Budget  310 Cape Cod Regional Tech was increased from 168,309 when our final assessment was received for 202,326.

2.      Budget 910 Retirement/Benefits/Insurance was reduced from 4,190,508 to 4,043,508 based on a reduced assessment from the Cape Cod municipal Health Group.

We are pleased to report that the budget for the Provincetown School Department was presented to us in the amount of 3,652,340 reflecting a 500,618 reduction over FY2007. We are encouraged and supportive of the many positive changes which are occurring in the education of Provincetown’s children.

After presentation of the memo a brief discussion was held with The Board of Selectmen and FinCom adjourned at 6:30pm to the Caucus Hall.

Respectfully Submitted;

Gary Delius

Chairman
