Informal joint Meeting with the School Committee.

 

The Chairman Steve Melamed called the meeting to order at 9:40.

 

Terese Nelson discusses the school committee’s point of view - concerns and issues and the importance of the school and education in Provincetown.

 

Molly P. states that the school is an untapped resource - part of year-round community and detrimental to economic growth.

 

Hunter discusses pursing daycare and states that it would provide work opportunity.

 

Burt Wolfman discusses the perception of the educational system and says that extended daycare for Pre K will be starting this summer - toddler would be delayed. 

 

Alix Ritchie reads a paragraph from Wall Street Journal regarding 2nd home buyers (see attached pdf file).

 

Discussion of goals of the education board - how to get the message out to the public about what the education board is doing - promote itself.  Jessica Waugh sates that education people are not in the business of selling themselves.

 

Henry suggests the education board put out a “did you know” for town meeting discussing daycare, summer programs, etc.

 

Steve invites the Education Board to the EDC’s May 3rd meeting.

 

Joint meeting ended at 10:55.

 

Steve, Alix, and Henry continue informal discussions.
