DISABILITIES COMMISSION MEETING

Minutes of meeting on March 21,2001.

The meeting was called to order at 5:40pm in the Senior Room at the Grace Gouveia Building at 26 Alden St., Provincetown, MA 02657.

Members Present: Laurie Green, Terry Horwitz, Toni Schiff, Betty Villari, Linton Watts.

Minutes were accepted as read.

Discussion focussed on two warrant articles to be presented at the upcoming Town Meeting. Article 40 of the Annual Town Meeting concerns whether the town will appropriate $12,000 for a pilot project to install pavement texturing (fake brick) on crosswalks at the intersection of Winslow and Bradford Sts., across Bradford St. to the bas relief opposite Town Hall and at the intersection of Standish and Bradford Streets.

The second item is Article 23 of the Special Town Meeting to see if the town will vote the sum of $93,034.14 from funds available from the Massachusetts Highway Department for road and sidewalk construction and repairs.

It was decided not to take any action about these two articles, but to attend Town Meeting and follow their progress and speak if pertinent.

There was a brief discussion as to whether or not it is appropriate for the Disabilities Commission to send letters to homeowners who have hedges which overlap or project out over sidewalks. These can be major obstacles to disabled persons. No decision was reached. Terri Horwitz attended as the newest member of the Commission. She has agreed to handle all correspondence as needed.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 5:30 pm in the Senior Room located at the Grace Gouveia Building at 26 Alden St., Provincetown, MA 02657.
