DISABILITIES COMMISSION MEETING

Minutes of meeting on Feb 28,2001

The meeting was called to order at 5:40 pm in the COA building.

Members present: Laurie Green Toni Schiff Betty Villari Linton Watt

Also Present: Mark Latour - Liaison to the Town of Provincetown

There was follow-up discussion about crosswalks at the intersections of Winslow & Bradford Sts., behind Town Hall across Bradford to the bas-relief; and at Standish & Bradford Sts. Curb cuts and crosswalks are already installed or in process and it was suggested that they be painted with an illuminating type of paint - similar to that used on fire hydrants. Mark Latour said he would check this out with the DPW.

Toni Schiff proposed that Terry Horwitz be asked to join the Commission. All agreed that this would be an excellent addition.

It was requested that there be a map or list of all handicapped parking places in town. Mark Latour suggested that this might be a suitable project for his senior aides to undertake.

Concern was expressed about the construction of the new sewer system. Depending on various decisions and votes taken by the Town, it could begin as early as next fall -2001. If so, we need to plan for changes and/or expansion of shuttle services.

It was decided that all notices and minutes of meetings should be included on the Town website as well as the appropriate Town Hall notice boards.

Mention was made that the foyer at the back of Town Hall, which is the only accessible entrance for handicapped persons, is often extremely cold in winter. It might be possible to install some kind of heater -especially during times of heavy usage such as Town Meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm. Next meeting will be on Wed. March 21 at 5:30pm in COA Building.
