Approval of the minutes of the meeting from January 31, 2007 Meeting

Old Business

Status of Nominee’s Approval for Disability Commission Chair:

Pending approval by Town Manager

Library Parking:

-Michelle: Out-reach to Provincetown Resident parking in Library’s Designated Handicapped Parking Space; resident no longer occupies space.

-Doug: American Disabilities Act prohibits time limits in HP Spaces, but can designate usage; in this case to Library Patrons only.

-Debra: To modify concrete wall along side the existing Designated HP Space will require budgetary considerations; no move to propose action at this time.

-Doug: Motion for Disability Commission to join with The Provincetown Library Board of Trustees to convert one Library Patron Parking Spaces at the bottom of Center Street into a second HP Space, where there are no issues of concrete walls and more ease with regard to maneuvering into the parking space. Vote: 4/0 in favor.

Beach Wheelchair:

-Has been located at Publics Works Department

-is damaged and being assessed for repairs

-is valued between $6000-$8000

-needs to be insured

HP Parking Proposals:

-Michelle: Motion to create (2) designated handicapped parking spaces closer to the intersection of Howland and Commercial Street (vicinity of WOMR, The Schoolhouse, and Saint Mary’s Church)by relocating an existing handicapped parking space from 480 Commercial Street and adding a second space to this new location.

Vote: 4/0 in favor

- Michelle: Motion to create (3) designated handicapped parking spaces in the vicinity of PAAM at 460 – 462 Commercial Street.

Vote: 4/0 in favor

-Michelle: Motion to create (1) designated handicapped parking space across from the Aquarium Mall located at 204 Commercial Street.

Vote: 4/0 in favor

-Michelle: Motion to create (1) additional designated handicapped parking space in the vicinity of Pilgrim Landing Park directly behind the existing space at 1 Commercial Street (Parking meter #C99).

Vote: 4/0 in favor

 

 

-Michelle: Motion to create (1) designated handicapped parking space on Winslow Street that is closer to entry gate for Mata Field( for wheelchair accessibility) by relocating one of the three HP parking spaces currently located by the stairs that lead down to the Mata Field, across from the High School

Vote: 4/0 in favor

-Wave: There are three “(3) Hour Time Limit Parking” signs on Ryder Street that apply to all the metered parking spaces, but the signs do not indicate whether HP Vehicles have to adhere to these limits.

-Michelle: Motion for Board of Selectman to decide to include or exempt HP vehicles from the “(3) Hour Time Limit Parking” on Ryder Street by either changing the bylaw if exempting, or provide the text “including Handicapped Vehicles” on the signage, if including them, for purpose of clarity.

Vote: 4/0 in favor

Public Service Announcements:

-To be discussed at next meeting.

New Business

Open Space Plan:

-Brian and Michelle survey “Open Space Plan” for ADA considerations and invite other Disability Commission Members to be involved in this process.

-Provincetown has no ADA Coordinator
