Minutes of the March 8, 2006 Disability Commission meeting were read and approved.
Old Business:
Toni and Michelle attended the Annual Traffic Hearing conducted by the Board of Selectmen and were able to save handicapped parking spaces. Michelle suggested writing letter of appreciation. Toni asked at the public Hearing about moving the two new Library handicapped spaces to Commercial Street. The existing allocated spaces are not adequate. It was voted down by the Selectmen. Michelle invited Library people to one of our meetings to come up with possible solutions. Ken will speak with Marcia Fair and Jackie Kelley.
Michelle discussed brochure and many ideas concerning it, and proposed gathering people willing to go through brochure in regards to accommodations in Town.
Toni hasn’t heard from PTV yet regarding potential promotional ideas. It was not clear if this meant an actual program on disability issues, or more of a bulletin board type notice/announcement, or both.
Memo from Doug distributed to the Cultural Council regarding Art in Public places was read.
New Business:
Lorraine Kujawa, senior volunteer working on updating the Wheelchair accessibility brochure, was introduced. Lorraine shared her progress to date on the brochure, and has called businesses and guesthouses to ask about accessibility. Michelle mentioned that a group would be forming to work on the brochure.
Michelle discussed fundraising ideas for the Disability Commission at Vixen, which could be film, performance, etc. Ken suggested not doing it in season. All agreed on Fall for potential fundraising activities.
Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 10:00 am.
Motion to adjourn by Jo-Ann, seconded by Ken.
Meeting adjourned at 11:00 am.
Respectfully submitted by Terry Horwitz
